Transformations at City Farm SLO

On October 3rd, 2021, City Farm SLO

friends, families, and supporters gathered for a magical afternoon to celebrate a year of transformations at City Farm SLO and to honor Steven Marx on his retirement as Executive Director. Click here for an event summary

For the past 11 years, Steven has led and inspired City Farm SLO as a visionary founder, Volunteer Executive Director, farmhand, and continuing Board President. During that time, he secured major funding for the establishment of our organization, built a strong employee team and developed robust youth education programs. He engaged the local community in the life of our urban farm with volunteer days, festivals, and public-school field trips.

Under his leadership, City Farm SLO has become a model in sustainability through its implementation of regenerative agriculture practices and has enriched the lives of hundreds of underserved youths. To carry Steven's momentum forward, we
have established the Marx City Farm Education Fund.

With your help, we are growing the next generation of scientists, environmentalists, sustainable farmers, and change makers.

About the Fund

The Marx City Farm Education Fund will enable City Farm SLO to expand youth educational programs and community impacts.

With your help, in 2022 we will:

  • Reach over 5,000 young people across SLO County with educational programs.

  • Graduate 36 students from our 8-week intensive Youth Empowerment Programs and go onto employ 2 of these students in summer internships

  • Deliver over 10,000 lbs of produce, grown with regenerative farming methods, to the SLO Food Bank.

  • Continue our partnership with Pacific Beach High School in our 8th year of Farm Class

  • Offer our 7th year of therapeutic horticulture in partnership with San Luis Coastal Unified School District

Looking ahead, the Marx City Farm Education Fund will support the construction of a barn at City Farm SLO to house our expanded education programs.
